How much online traffic should I reasonably expect from newspaper exposure?

Let’s say my website sells a common household product that many people can use and it’s only . But the product is innovative so a newspaper columnist from a local paper wrote about it. Let’s say the paper is the Chicago Suntimes which has circulation of 300K. If I’m just a startup and have no other advertisement yet, how much traffic and sales should I reasonablely expect from just this newspaper exposure?

I know newspaper are short term, but the article itself will be interesting and my website will be in it.
Is 3000 sales a reasonable expectation?

  1. Newspapers aren’t used by anyone under 35 much anymore. I wouldn’t get too excited.

  2. i would put more money into advertising your website, SEM banner adds and posting your ads on other websites with products that’s similar to yours

  3. This would depend on the article.

    Does it mention your guarantee?
    You offer?

An editorial (make sure you get a copy of it, scan it, and place it on your site.) can generate a lot of exposure if the article is timely and impactful. If not, then not much traffic will come from it.

There is no way to guess till you look at the stats.

But good on you for getting it out there!
