How would I determine if my site is getting traffic?

I want to create my own online photography portfolio. However I am wondering how will I know if I am receiving traffic and other information such as where from, how etc.

I do not wish to include advertisements on my website btw. It will be a place where I will showcase my work.

  1. Sign up for the free Google Analytics account http://www.google.com/analytics

You put in the code of Google Analytics at the bottom of each of your pages (ideally before the </body> tag). You can now track

    - how many visits you get
    - how many pageviews
    - sources of traffic
    - what pages they are looking for at your site
    - what countries they come from
    - among others

  2. Google Analytics – as mentioned above is by far the best solution. I highly recommend it. Many hosts – if they offer a management platform- also include site stats as well. I’m not sure how detailed you want your traffic info.

  3. Install free counter from Statcounter.com
They also have a very good forum
Statcounter will log visitors, where they link from, what browser, screen res. they are using etc.

  4. StatCounter can help. You get daily reports.

  5. Google Analytics is a better option to watch and figure out how many coming and moving

any ways you can also use Yahoo Analytics its quite similar to google analytics and both are free as well.
